BC Children's Hospital Murals Revealed!

Last year I had the honour of creating 3 murals for the beautiful new BC Children's Hospital Teck Acute Centre. The hospital opened this Fall and all the artwork was revealed! I had yet to see what my pieces actually looked like at full scale as I created the artwork digitally. It was then blown up and printed onto vinyl which was then adhered to the walls. 

So here's a look at the murals installed in their homes. Enjoy!

A little personal story:

31 years ago I was born at the BC Children's Hospital three months premature. ⠀

I spent many weeks in an incubator, I had a blood transfusion and had to learn how to breathe properly in this strange new world I found myself in.

31 years later I got to walk into the new hospital with my mom and see the artwork I had created for the space. ⠀

Of course I don't remember those first 7 weeks of my life, but I know that my parents had to spend a lot of time at the hospital and that I received much love and support. I know that it was the beginning of my journey on this planet. ⠀

I wasn't really struck with the meaning of it all until I walked into the building and saw the beautiful murals and sculptures, unlike any hospital I had seen, there was artwork everywhere. And I felt immense gratitude that I could share my art in a place that is so often a place of fear, sadness and worry. That I could walk in there, 31 years later, healthy and strong, with the hope that my artwork can provide beauty, peace, calm and hope to the kids and families that find themselves there.⠀
